American tennis star Coco Gauff is one of the most promising prospects in women’s tennis. The 18-year-old rose rapidly in the ranks after a brilliant performance this year. Currently, she holds the rank of number 11 in the world. Earlier this year, the 18-year-old had her best Roland Garros of career. Displaying brilliant form, the American marched into the finals. However, she couldn’t go past a rampant Iga Swiatek in the final.

The 18-year-old has also been very vocal about the pressing issues in her country. Recently, in an interview, she spoke about the same.

Coco Gauff is not afraid of anything

Answering the question about raising her voice for pressing issues, the 18-year-old said that her parents have taught her to not be afraid to talk about anything.

“Ever since I was young, my parents and my grandparents always put that, instilled in us to never be afraid to use your voice and bring out issues that you want to talk about,” she said.

Further, she spoke about the motivation to do so.

“So I never felt scared to say something and I always try to say something I want to say and how it can look from all types of backgrounds and I try to put it in a way that everyone can understand or can at least try to understand. I do have people come up to me all the time about it and I think that’s what makes me continue to do it,” she added.

Gauff on the US gun violence issue

A lot of debate has been going on about the increasing rate of gun violence in the United States of America. Hailing from the country, Gauff also raised her voice for peace before her final match at Roland Garros.

“Yeah, it’s a Grand Slam final. But there are so many things going on in the world, especially in the U.S. I think it’s not important to stress over a tennis match,” she said.

Back in 2020, the 18-year-old gave a speech in her hometown as a protest against George Floyd’s death. It’s nice to see the new generation of tennis players understanding the value of the platform they speak from.
