American tennis legend Serena Williams has hung her racket. The 40-year-old earlier announced that the current season is her last. Playing in her last Grand Slam, the 40-year-old was not in excellent form. The former world number one still gave it her all and won the first two matches of the tournament. However, Australian tennis star Ajla Tomljanović was too good for her last night. As Serena bowed out of the tournament, social media was flooded with tributes for the legend.

Senior Journalist Sally Jenkins also gave her tribute to the retiring legend in a special way. Later, another journalist, Jose Antonio Vargas, shared her words on Twitter and it is going viral. Here’s what she said about Serena.

Praising Serena for her brilliant career, Jenkins called her even greater as she competed after having childbirth. “Name any athlete in history, please, who could do what Serena Williams is doing. Tom Brady? He never had a C-section,” she wrote.

Serena thanks sister Venus
After the match, it was time for an emotional farewell speech from Serena Williams. The American was in tears when she thanked her Elder sister Venus Williams for the success she has achieved as a tennis player. Notably, both Serena and Venus trained together from an early age.

While Venus started first, Serena followed her. With time, Serena surpassed her sister, and today she ends up as one of the top athletes of all time.
