The film covers the journey of Richard Williams, who gives the proper directions to young Serena and Venus.

Will Smith is playing the role of Richard Williams. In a recent interview, Smith talks about the first meeting with Serena and Venus. Will also shared his experience of taking up this intriguing role.

Will Smith’s first meeting with Venus and Serena Williams

‘King Richard’ will be released on the silver screen on 19th November 2021. Just before that, in an interview, Will Smith expressed his experience of meeting Serena Williams and Venus Williams for the first time. Smith remembers Venus telling him, “ It’s almost like they brainwashed us. You said it was our punishment was that we couldn’t play tennis.”

He further added, ” They never had to push. It was like there was a Jedi mind trick. It wasn’t the standard trick that you see of a parent pushing and driving a child. There was that but it was the augmenting and flowing flowing fuel on a fire that they had. It was the fire coming from inside of Venus and Serena.”

Smith explores the new role

In the same interview, Will Smith also talked about the unique experience he had while taking up this amazing role. He said this was a completely new parenting idea for him. Smith is playing the lead role of Richard Williams, father of Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

He quoted, “ That was a new parenting idea for me of aligning with your children vs directing your children ‘. It was a very different concept and approach that was magical in the Williams family.”
