Coco Gauff “didn’t go to the gym for nothing“

The Washington Open proved to be a great tournament for the young American sensation. While she has been performing admirably in doubles, she was lamenting the recent lack of titles on her singles tour. However, her dry spell ended as she won her fourth singles title and her first WTA 500 championship. 

She beat her opponent, Maria Sakkari, with great panache. The first set ended quickly, with a score of 6-2. Sakkari seemed to be finding her form as she won 2 games back-to-back. But that was not enough as the 7th seed would go on to win the match. After her victory, Gauff got to lift her first WTA 500 trophy, which was rather huge.

She hilariously struggled to carry the heavy trophy around. As she floundered up the podium for her speech, she started her comments by saying, “Ok.. this is heavy. I’ll be able to do it. I didn’t go to the gym for nothing.“

The celebration in the Gauff family will be one that will light up her house. This will be the second event, as Gauff had a tiny outing with her mother as her prize for doing good in the tournament.

American sensation’s mother shows her doting daughter’s side

After her victory in the quarterfinal of the Washington Open, Gauff decided to treat herself and her mother. She has been the young sensation’s pillar of support for her entire career and even left her job to ensure she could receive proper training. They went for brunch at an aesthetic restaurant, where she also took several pictures of her mother and uploaded one on her Instagram.

The young American sensation recognizes the efforts her family has put in for her. Now, she is making sure they recognize the gratefulness of the pair.
