The tennis world is always on the lookout for the next big star. In recent years, Coco Gauff has emerged as one of the most promising young players in the sport. At just 19 years of age, the American tennis sensation has already made her mark on the sport, reaching career-high rankings in both singles (6) and doubles (4). However, there is one aspect of her game that has been identified as a potential obstacle to her success: her forehand.
Rumors soon began that she might be in for a career-changing move. They hint that she may decide to work with the former coach of the Williams sisters, Rick Macci. In Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe podcast, the host revealed that the veteran coach is interested too.

Not just commentators and analysts, Patrick McEnroe too believed, “The technique on the forehead is very shaky.” Patrick McEnroe added that Macci has been in talks with Gauff’s father to address her lack of techniques. Last month, Macci had noted that her forehand technique is currently not solid enough for acing the majors. Macci believed his training can prove otherwise.

Another issue with Gauff’s forehand is her footwork. Her footwork can sometimes let her down in important matches. She finds it difficult to generate power and control her shots. If there’s one person who can help Coco Gauff improve her forehand and take her game to the next level, it’s Rick Macci. Macci has worked with some of the biggest names in the sport, including Venus and Serena Williams, Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova.
The strict coach can break down the various components of a player’s game and work on improving each one individually. He has a reputation for being able to help players with their footwork. Macci coached with the Williams sisters between 1990 and 1995. 23 years later, Macci is still sworn in to his noble profession.

Macci recently tweeted about Gauff’s reflex training
The coach suggested on Twitter that Gauff needs special training to improve her game. In his tweet, he highlighted that she needs to train her reflexes and forehand to switch up her game. He unabashedly called out her former coaches and referred to what they had done to her game as nothing more than applying a band-aid. With Macci’s focus on reflex training, Gauff might develop lightning-fast reflexes to win more games.
