The Billie Jean King Cup Heart Award aims to recognize players who have represented their country with distinction, shown exceptional courage on the court, and demonstrated outstanding commitment to the team. Among the nominees were the names of Jasmine Paolini, Emma Raducanu, Lucia Bronzetti, and Rebecca Sramkova.

Surprisingly, Swiatek, who won all 4 matches at the tournament, failed to get recognition for the award, a decision which caught the eyes of many fans. The Pole won the award once during the 2022 Qualifiers. However, a chance to clinch the award in the finals blew away this year after she got snubbed in the nominations. Expressing shock at Swiatek’s non-selection, many fans vented their frustration at the selection committee.

Fans left dejected after Iga Swiatek gets snubbed for a major award

While Iga Swiatek remained unbeaten in the Billie Jean King Cup, Paolini, who made it to the list, lost her match against Swiatek in the semifinals. Nonetheless, she guided her team to the trophy after playing crucial roles in both singles as well as doubles in the summit match. Thus, some fans felt that Paolini had the upper hand but Swiatek should’ve at least made it to the nominated list. One fan commented, “Paolini is the deserved winner, but Swiatek carried a below-average Poland team to the semis. Should be at least in the top 4.”

The final list was broken down and only 4 players were nominated for the Heart Award. A fan pointed out that Swiatek must have been there in the reckoning for the award. Moreover, the fan even suggested that the list could be expanded to 5 players to accommodate Swiatek. The fan wrote, “Our Hearts Voted and its IGA! hahaha @BJKCup Could have 5 Choices and included Iga.”

Swiatek’s brilliant performance in the tournament guided Team Poland into the semifinals. Even during the last-4 clash against Italy, Swiatek won her singles match against Paolini. As a result, a fan asked, “No player from Poland despite being one of the semi-finalists?” On the other hand, there were two Italian stars who got nominated, one being Paolini and the other being Bronzetti. Thus, a fan suggested, “You could have put Iga here instead of two Italian…”

Echoing the thoughts of many fans, an X user vented frustration at Swiatek’s name not being there in the Heart Award nominations. The Pole played a major role in helping her nation get to the last 4, something which wasn’t acknowledged by the selection panel. A fan comment read, “And you forgot Iga who carry her team to the semifinals…seriously.”

However, Swiatek wouldn’t be too concerned about missing out on the Heart Award. She would be focused on making a good start to the 2025 season. The fans can expect a spirited Swiatek to go all guns blazing next year. Are you backing Swiatek to win the Australian Open title? Let us know in the comments below.
