Over the years, American tennis has been blessed with some legendary players. From the likes of Chris Evert to Andy Roddick, several stars have graced the court with their dominating performance. Among them are the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus Williams. They have ruled women’s tennis over the last two decades, winning almost every big title. Recently, talking about Serena’s ‘fearless’ nature, the elder Williams sister heaped praise on her younger sibling.

While they remained strong rivals on the court, Venus and Serena shared a deep bond off the court. Often, they are seen spending quality time with each other. Here’s what Venus had to say about Serena.

Earlier this month, Venus Williams was involved in an event with Trinity University President Vanessa Beasley at the Laurie Auditorium. During an interview there, Venus reminisced about the time when she started her tennis career.

Revisiting the memories from those days, she revealed how she watched the success and determination of her younger sister closely. Further, Venus went on to add, “She was such a fearless player on the court and I always admired that”.

Talking about the very specific thing that Serena had, which Venus wanted, the elder Williams sister continued, “I was very talented … but didn’t quite have the thing in me to get past the finish line. And I knew it at a young age, … that thing she had, I wanted it.”

While Serena has dominated her rivalry with Venus, winning 19 of the 31 matches played between them, Venus holds a unique record against her sister. However, this record was forgotten by the tennis world and it resurfaced again when their former coach spoke about it.

Rick Macci highlights Venus’ unique record over Serena Williams

Last year, the childhood coach of the Williams sisters, Rick Macci, was involved in an exclusive interview with ES. During the conversation, he pointed out one of Venus’ records that got lost amid Serena’s greatness.

He said, “Who beat Serena more than anybody was Venus, she beat her 12 times, no one could even come close to saying that, and Serena’s played a long time, it was 19 and 12 you know so at the end of the day Venus was amazing and she kind of gets lost in the shuffle.”
