Camila Giorgi has stunned the Canadian Open tournament organizers with her performances in the last few days. After an underwhelming grass swing, she had very little expectations on her shoulders. In fact, the organizers did not consider her good enough to receive a wildcard, despite reigning supreme in the same tournament two years ago.

The wildcard snub may have ignited a fire inside the Italian as she was close to unbeatable in the opening round in Montreal. The local girl, Bianca Andreescu, stood no chance against a peaking Giorgi as she could only steal five games in the entire match. Fans on Twitter lauded the 2021 Canadian Open champion for her on-court resilience.

After a round one exit at Wimbledon, Giorgi withdrew from the Poland Open and Hungarian Open. Being forced to play qualifiers in Montreal only added to her misery. However, it soon turned into a blessing in disguise. The two wins in qualifiers gave her enough confidence and match practice to come out in flying colors against the former US Open champion.

The fans could not resist applauding Giorgi for her efforts on Twitter. She entered the match as an underdog and stunned the crowd with her racket skills.

Giorgi’s fans blessed her with plenty of love and affection, but they must also note that the Italian has a tough road ahead. For starters, a certain Petra Kvitova waits for her in the round of 32. Kvitova has already won two titles this year, including one at the Miami Open where she cruised past the favorite Elena Rybakina.
