Serena Williams is a person of strong beliefs and doesn’t mold herself according to the trends. Though the 23 times Grand Slam champion like keeping herself updated and linked to the changing society. She isn’t someone who would evade her old customs. One of the out-of-the-norm things she did that aligns with the former statement was avoiding Olympia’s birthday celebration.

The co-founder of Reddit and Williams tied the knot and welcomed Olympia in September 2017. However, unlike every other parent, they didn’t throw a birthday party next year. But it doesn’t mean they didn’t celebrate her presence in their life.

The couple surprised their little one with a party on the completion of 17 months of her arrival. “I wanted to just do something fun because we don’t do birthdays,” Williams confessed. They dressed Olympia in a red and white outfit and introduced her to farm animals.

Further, face paint, train rides, a working carousel, and even a station dubbed Olympia’s Candy Shop was also included. After a fun-filled day with their daughter, Ohanian took on social media to share an adorable picture capturing daddy and daughter. Though as Olympia was pointing at the ducks in the background, he wrote. “Ok, we’ll get some chickens & ducks.”

Williams and Ohanian don’t celebrate birthdays because of their religious beliefs. As the former World no.1 once stated, “Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that.” As per Jehovah’s Witnesses, followers shouldn’t indulge in such activities “because we believe that such celebrations displease God.”

The seven times Wimbledon champion is a busy person. Therefore, she tries to get the best the out of whatsoever little time she has with her daughter. Speaking of which, Williams used her recovery time to give Olympia a core memory.

Williams gave forehand training to the five-year-old and as she was not participating in the tours, she finally had the time to celebrate mother’s day with her as well. The couple, after enjoying Miami Grand Prix, took Olympia out for a nice dinner. Thereafter, they spent some time together in England cheering for and supporting the American legend on her return.
