At the tender age of 14, CoCo Vandeweghe made her debut in the women’s circuit with her participation in the 2006 San Diego Classic. Ever since the American tennis star has clinched two WTA singles titles and has further reached the top 10 rankings during her two decades-long competitive journey. However, after establishing herself as one of the popular tennis figures, the 31-year-old has finally decided to put down her racket at the tournament where she started it all.
Vandeweghe has now received heartfelt tributes from the tennis community including her compatriot, Pam Shriver. While hailing the former junior US Open champion, the 61-year-old also recalled a ‘major’ ground-breaking incident in the tennis realm.

The 31-year-old teamed up with her American colleague Danielle Collins for her farewell campaign at their home tournament, the San Diego Classic. After outperforming some of the exciting duos at the doubles event, Vandeweghe and Collins managed to secure a place in the championship match.
After a phenomenal run, the American duo, however, faced a heartbreaking title match defeat against the Czech pair, Kateřina Siniaková and Barbora Krejčíková. With the former world No. 9 now bidding farewell to the game on her home soil, the tennis veteran Pam Shriver penned a heartfelt message on social media.

Shriver and Vandeweghe once made history on the court
Almost 8 seasons ago, Shriver and Vandeweghe together pulled off something historic at their home Grand Slam event, the 2015 US Open. After wrapping up her first set against Sloane Stephens, the former world No. 9 player agreed to the first mid-match interview in the illustrious history of the sport.
And it was none other than ESPN pundit, Pam Shriver who was interviewing Vandeweghe for a collaborative initiative with the USTA that could be an innovation to benefit fans. After her court-side conversation with the Hall of Famer, Vandeweghe went on to prevail in her first-rounder in straight sets, 6-4 6-3.
