Venus Williams shared her happiness with fans with an Instagram post honoring the anniversary of her professional tennis career. The elder sister, Venus, started her professional tennis debut 28 years ago, on October 31, 1994.

Venus Williams has often acknowledged that simply being around Serena Williams has had a significant impact on her life and career. 28 years ago, Venus Williams, a highly touted teenager, ushered in a new era in the sport, where strong baseline rallies and thunderous serves overruled finesse and net play.

Venus and Serena would collectively win 30 Grand Slam titles over the ensuing 28 years. In honor of Venus’ first match, Serena recently recalled an intricate detail about her elder sister’s debut.

The Williams sister’s mother significantly contributed to the sister’s dominance on the court. Along with Richard Williams, Oracene Price also assisted her daughters in the technical aspects of the sport while strengthening their resolve and mindset to be champions both on and off the court.

Serena also shared about her mother’s personal touch for Venus’ debut match. She took to her Instagram stories and shared a picture of Venus playing a shot on her debut. She captioned it, “My mama made this outfit for Venus Williams when she was 15 years old”.

The sister’s mother once called out the French crowd for their rude behavior

In 2003, the mother of Venus and Serena Williams criticized the French crowd for their obnoxious behavior in the 2003 French Open. She accused the crowd of preferring a Caucasian athlete as opposed to an African-American one, like her daughter. The rude fan behavior erupted predominantly from the Belgian section of the crowd, who were rooting for their compatriot, Justine Henin-Hardenne, in the semifinal match.

The French crowd in the 2003 semifinals was whistling and trying to upset the performance of Serena Williams.
