John McEnroe, the seven-time Grand Slam champion, is currently covering the US Open as a commentator and presenter. The former American player spoke about his expectations for Serena Williams at the US Open while revealing Richard Williams’ epic prediction about the Williams sisters.

Serena Williams made some amazing and impeccable records during her illustrious two-decade career. Tennis legend John McEnroe, who considers Serena Williams one of the world’s greatest sporting icons, talked about her legacy while covering the US Open.

John McEnroe discusses his predictions for Serena Williams at the US Open

McEnroe, before Serena’s first round match, talked about his expectations for the 23-time Grand Slam champion at the US Open. He also talked about Richard Williams’ epic prediction about Venus and Serena Williams when they were just eight or nine.

He started by saying, “What Serena and Venus have done in the course of their careers. I mean, that’s like once in a hundred years that you’d hear about a story and see it come to fruition, the way Richard Williams predicted. I met them when they were eight or nine, he said they were gonna be the best.”

He further added, “And he was right. So hopefully her legacy will live on long after she stops playing. That’s obvious. I hope she stays part of the game. That’s, that’s a big thing. She needs to be around the game as much as possible. That would really help things as well.”

Serena moves into the US Open’s third round

Serena Williams defeated Montenegrin Danka Kovinic 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the US Open. In a post-match interview, she expressed her gratitude for the crowd’s support. She said, “The crowd was crazy. It really helped pull me through. I was really pumped. I was like, ‘Yes, I got this.‘”

In the second round match, Serena again showed her tremendous grit to win the first tiebreaker, and comeback from losing the second set. Moreover, playing against the current world no.2, Anett Kontaveit, the 6-time US Open champion, proved that she still has the competitiveness and, more importantly, the intensity to beat top players.

Serena Williams advances to the third round, where she will face Australian Ajla Tomljanović. The Aussie star has so far defeated Karolina Muchova and Evgeniya Rodina in her first and second round matches. This will be her first match against the 23-time Grand Slam champion.
