The Met Gala held on May 1st was the much-hyped event of the month. Several personalities from various fields like entertainment, music, and sports were invited to walk the red carpet of the fundraiser. However, the absence of one star was painfully obvious to her fans. Maria Sharapova, a fashion icon in her own regard, was absent from the Gala. However, not long after, Sharapova fans were left wondering about her whereabouts, and the WTA legend herself cleared the air with an update on her social media.

Sharapova, as it turned out, had something else planned out entirely. She decided to go out and have fun with her fiancé Alexander Gilkes, to whom she is engaged. The two also have a child who was born in July last year, and needless to say, he takes up most of Sharapova’s attention.

Maria Sharapova has her own plans

Sharapova, the former world number 1, is one such player who has always gained immense attention for her outfits. She has even invested in several companies in the fashion industry that seek to elevate the contemporary sense of style. Naturally, one would imagine, with such a portfolio, she deserves to be a mandatory attendee at the prestigious Met Gala. However, as several fashion icons graced the red carpet at the biggest fashion event, Sharapova was not among them. 

As it turns out the 36-year-old tennis legend was in New York where the Gala was held. What a crazy coincidence! However, Sharapova decided not to stay in her hotel and instead spend some time outside with her fiancé Alexander Gikes. The adorable duo took to the streets of the the Big Apple on a date. To celebrate this moment with her fans, Sharapova posted a few pictures of her night out with Gilkes on her Instagram story. One picture she shared was of Gilkes, lounging on a chair. She captioned the story, “One Handsome Date 🤗 @Gilkesa“.

Additionally, she also shared pictures of her getting a new hairstyle, trying a new dessert, and her breakfast during her time in New York.

Sharapova loves New York

This was not the only instance where Sharapova gave her fans a glimpse of how much she loves New York. Last year, Sharapova went to New York during Spring and had a blast. During that time, she attended the exhibition held by Marina Abramovic, a renonwned performance artist. Sharapova told her followers that she had a nice meal and a great time at the numerology session hosted by Abramovic.
