‘Pathetic’- Serena Williams’ Former Coach Lambasts 29YO Italian for Deplorable Behavior After Deservedly Losing to Unfancied Youngster at the German Open

Tennis, like all other sports, has several traditions set in place during a match which are upheld in the spirit of sportsmanship. One such tradition is the post-match handshake. No matter the result of the match, opponents always walk up to the net to shake each other’s hands for a good match. However, a recent match saw the victor receiving a lousy handshake from their opponent, leaving a certain former coach of Serena Williams fuming.
Instances of a poor attitude between two players have occurred many times over the years. But this time, Rennae Stubbs lashed out on Twitter and call out the incident.
Serena Williams’ former coach chastises player for poor behavior

The incident came out of the German Open. In a third-round bout, Martina Trevisan faced off against Noma Akugue Noha. Trevisan won the first set with some effort, but Noha was able to capitalize on the second set. After back-to-back blows in the third set, Noha won her match against the former number 18 to advance to the semifinal.
After their bout ended, Noha was on cloud nine, shedding happy tears. As she walked up to shake hands with her opponent, she did not receive a handshake with a similar intensity. Trevisan’s meager attempt at a handshake ground Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs’ gears, who let was vocal about her thoughts on her Twitter page. She wrote, “And I’m sorry that was a pathetic “hand shake” if that’s what u call it from Trevisan! Bloody hell, the kid legit beat u and she’s in tears walking to the net and u barely shake her hand. Not approved!!! 🤌🤌🤌“.

While this incident certainly angered many fans, another incident last year served to anger them even more. What’s more is that it took place during the French Open last year, when Holger Rune refused to be cordial with his opponent, Casper Ruud.

Holger Rune refuses to shake hands with his opponent
During the 2022 Roland Garros quarterfinal round, Holger Rune faced Casper Ruud in an anticipated match. The Norwegian was able to surpass his opponent to reach the semifinal. However, after the match, Rune refused to shake hands with Ruud, which sparked much criticism of the young Danish player. Rune later came out defending his decision.

He stated that he did not shake hands with his opponent because Ruud screamed at his face before the match began.
