‘People Throwing Money…’- ‘Superbrat’ John McEnroe Showers Sympathy on Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu Amidst Their Dip in Form of Late

John McEnroe was given the name ‘Super Brat’ for his on-court antics, where he let go of his emotions without any filter. Rising to stardom at a very young age, he was scrutinized for his personality very closely. In a recent interview, he commented on the steps taken by Naomi Osaka and a spotlight on her.

Other than that, he also discussed the rise of Emma Raducanu and how her rise to fame, at a young age, brings her actions under everyone’s attention.

McEnroe, in an interview with GQ, talked about his documentary, where he mentioned his anxiety issues. He also pointed out the mindset one had to keep while performing at the highest level because of a lack of awareness among the masses about mental health. According to the legendary American player, the trend is changing now, for good, but it also brings more spotlight on the athletes.

Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open citing mental health issues and this brought out a lot of concern over the mental health of athletes. McEnroe said, “The issue with Naomi Osaka is that I think she did it for the right reasons.” However, he also pointed out the issues with it. He continued, “Now people are going to look at her even more carefully. I hope it plays out well.”

On the other hand, he talked about Emma Raducanu who has suffered a lot of scrutiny because of her performance in 2022. McEnroe said, “And for Emma Raducanu, there’s a lot on her shoulders.” He elaborated that her scrutiny comes from a sudden rise and the burden of expectations that comes along with it. “She had this historic “never-happened-before” win at the US Open.”

Nevertheless, he also pointed out the positive side too, where she has gained fame. He said, “There are people throwing money at her. Hopefully, she has the right people around her. Hopefully, they can allow her to flourish.”

How are Osaka and Raducanu preparing for the US Open?

Both players have won the US Open in the past. Raducanu will be the defending champion at the US Open 2022, whereas Osaka will come with the hope of clinching her third US Open title. Both, Osaka and Raducanu played at the Citi Open. While Osaka suffered a defeat at the hands of Coco Gauff in the second round, Raducanu reached the quarter-finals of the tournament and will face Ludmilla Samsonova.
