The movie ‘King Richard’ told us many stories about Venus and Serena Williams and their early days. We saw the way the Williams sisters used to train with their parents, which was really inspiring. Apart from their father, Richard Williams and mother, Oracene Price, Rick Macci played a vital role in their career.

The legendary tennis coach, Macci, has trained many famous tennis players, including Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, and Jennifer Capriati. Recently, he talked about a few stories about the Williams sisters that didn’t make it into the ‘King Richard’ movie.

Rick Macci tells an interesting story about Venus and Serena Williams
In the movie, ‘King Richard’, the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, told us many interesting stories about Serena and Venus Williams.
We all saw that Richard wasn’t keen on letting Venus and Serena play in the junior tournaments. Rick didn’t mind it as much, even though the movie portrayed otherwise. The story Macci revealed was about a Venus Williams doll.

Although the Williams sisters didn’t play any junior tournaments, they used to play many exhibition matches during their early days. They got an invitation from South Carolina to play an exhibition match at the Family Circle Cup. They played against the great Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals, one of the best doubles team of all time.
During the match, Venus standing near the service line rather than the baseline to return serve. The Williams sisters didn’t know how to play the doubles, but sure knew how to fight without caring about the opposition. The sisters showed their heart and fighting spirit and made 5,000 people in the stands go absolutely crazy over two young players.
According to Rick, “They didn’t play doubles, but they knew how to fight… People were freaking out, they were freaking out, how aggressive they were. The match ends, everybody’s blown away by the intensity and enthusiasm.”

However, after the match, when they were going to the airport, Venus was talking to a doll about her performance in the match. Venus’ behavior surprised Macci, who realized that they were first and foremost children before being tennis players.
“The moral of the story, and Richard knew, that I knew, they are kids first and tennis players second,” Macci said in conclusion.
