After suffering defeats in two successive WTA finals in 2021, Garbine Muguruza has finally gotten her hands on her first title of the season. The Spaniard played some incredible tennis at the WTA Dubai 2021 and defeated Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.
It is a special moment for Garbine Muguruza as she’s won a WTA title almost after two years. Even though she has been playing some really amazing tennis lately, she was not able to lift titles. The drought finally ended when she won her 8th WTA title at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2021.
Muguruza expressed great joy and happiness in the post-match press conference. She highlighted that it is a big relief for her to lift the champion’s trophy after a series of failed attempts.

The 2-time Grand Slam champion also explained that it was really a tough finale for her. She said that it could have gone either way.
“It was such a tight match. It could have gone either way. I feel like the finals are very hard, the two best players of that week, and I had to work hard for it tonight. Very happy about it,” added the Spaniard.

She also accepted that it is really tough to win titles on the WTA circuit these days. Thus, she is really happy and electrified as she was able to outplay some of the best players in the past few weeks.
“You have all these opponents, having to play ten matches in a row, makes it difficult. It’s very hard, and I’m happy that I managed well. Physically it was hard but I was happy that I could handle that,” concluded Muguruza.
