Maria Sharapova will be pairing up with legendary John McEnroe to face off against previous winner Andre Agassi and his partner, Steffi Graf. In a recent interview, Sharapova spoke about her Pickleball interest in detail. Despite being a former tennis icon, Sharapova seemed relatively nervous about this new sport. She called pickleball a “new territory.” However, the main reason behind still choosing to play this sport was her opponent and legendary Steffi Graf. Sharapova will be playing against Graf which is truly a lifetime opportunity for the Russian tennis icon. Sharapova further added- “The main reason I wanted to participate in this event was to play against Steffi Graf, who I admired for so many years,”

Now Steffi Graf has been truly iconic in tennis as she was the last tennis star to grab a career Grand Slam in 1988. Sharapova ended her response by saying- “It’ll be great to compete against (Graf) and Andre with John—all of us playing this sport that’s having such a moment,”

However, she is confident that her partner John Mcenroe will offer a great performance at the Pickleball Slam’s second edition- “I’ve been practicing a bunch, so we’ll see. But I think John and I are going to be a formidable team.” Recently, she also talked about her own feelings about the upcoming match.

Maria Sharapova’s game often ‘span a variety of emotions’

Sharapova seemed excited about her debut in the pickleball. Her comments expressed her feelings about the tournament by saying her game will “span a variety of emotions.” She said– “I think all the legends on the court come from very competitive backgrounds, and there will be no holding back, which will make it so much more exciting and fun, Every time I play, it’s been really fun to see how much I giggle, but also how frustrated I can get during some of the games.”
