Tennis star Naomi Osaka is among the few players who have achieved significant success at a very young age. She has won four Grand Slam titles, has a career-high world no.1 ranking, and is only 24 years old. Despite her tremendous success on the tour, her mental health has seen many ups and downs over the years. After one such incident, renowned journalist Piers Morgan criticized the tennis star.

Piers Morgan’s comments about Naomi Osaka

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City, was called a ‘fraud’ in a column for the Daily Mail by Morgan for attending the “Oscars of fashion.” Not only the mayor, but Morgan also mentioned Osaka in his column. At that time, Osaka had opened up about her struggles with mental health and how she was trying to cope up with it.

The British journalist said, “And speaking of frauds, tennis star Naomi Osaka has spent most of the year whining, crying, throwing racket-breaking tantrums on the court, and blaming the media for her poor form and mental health issues.” Morgan pointed out Osaka’s anger issues and poor form and lashed out at her for blaming the media.

Osaka’s disappointing 2022 season

Naomi Osaka was eliminated from the US Open 2022 after falling to America’s Danielle Collins in the first round. Osaka began the first round with a commanding head-to-head record (3-0) against Collins, having won every set they had played. However, she walked out of her favorite Grand Slam in the very first round after a straight-set defeat.

Osaka experienced yet another loss when she was defeated by Zhang Shuai of China in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open.
