Sabalenka’s fitness coach is ‘like a canvas’ to her

Recently, the Belarusian tennis player defeated Coco Gauff in the semi-final round of the tournament. Her tournament ritual has been quite popular for the past few days regarding how she has been signing her fitness coach’s bald head before the match. And now, during the post-match press conference, Stacy opened up about his side of the story and even revealed whether they carry the ritual on off days.

He said, “Then every day it’s like a routine to sign my head. Non-match day, she just draws some random picture. They played tic-tac-toe on my head the other day. She won, by the way so it’s good. Then on match day she just signs it and does random stuff. Just part of the process.”

Along with that, he also highlighted how he has no problem when she signs his head, as it’s part of a joke. Not only that, he also highlighted how, on the same day, it was some sort of tiger or cat that she drew over his head. He stated, “A cat, and then she wrote “Meow” underneath it. I’m, like, Oh, gosh. Why not, right? Just for some fun. I don’t mind. I’m like a canvas (laughter).”

After the quarterfinal, during a press conference, the 25-year-old opened up about how she is carrying a weird superstition to support her victories during the tournament. She said, “We just started this. I did it before the first match, and after I won, I told Jason, ‘Well, I guess it’s a routine right now.’ He’s not happy with that, but he understands everything.”

Not only that, she also highlighted that from the first match of the tournament to the very current victory, they have been following their own thing to keep the victory run going. However, although superstition has been a good part of her victories, it will be interesting to see whether it will also add charm to the final glory of the tournament.
