“I feel great,” Taylor Townsend said in jubilation after winning the biggest title of her career. The American star partnered with Katerina Siniakova to win the 2024 Wimbledon Championships title in women’s doubles. It was Townsend’s first major title and she joined an exclusive list of mothers winning a Grand Slam title. Not only has Townsend excelled in doubles but also in singles lately. She has looked in fine touch and even had some big victories over the likes of Jelena Ostapenko and Daria Kasatkina. As a result, a renowned journalist made a massive revelation about Townsend’s US Open chances.

After making a comeback as a mother a couple of years back, Townsend is enjoying the best phase of her career. Thus, during the Tennis Channel Live Podcast’s episode that was released on August 16, a tennis insider, Jon Wertheim, who is also a renowned journalist, staked a huge claim on Townsend’s US Open chances. He feels that the American star is a dark horse to win the title in New York and players will hope to avoid her in their part of the draw.

During the podcast, Wertheim said, “That’s what happens when you have singles ambition to match your doubles ambition. Now this is one of the great stories. She went on to win the Wimbledon title and tell you know what, I want to do solo as well. She has been terrific, this is one of the players no one wants to face at the US Open in two weeks.”

Taylor Townsend: ‘Not done yet’

In her previous 10 matches, Townsend has won 9 and lost just a solitary match. Additionally, she has dominated her opponents with her attacking nature of play. Yesterday, the 28-year-old had a big win over the ninth seed, Daria Kasatkina, in the second round of the Cincinnati Open. Subsequently, she opened up about her goal for the remainder of the season.

During the post-match interview, Townsend revealed, “I set that goal to get inside of the top 50, and my coach actually reminded me my goal was top 20 by US Open. So, I was shooting high and I was inside the top 50 in my ranking, and my ranking drops like close to 80 because I lost points from Rome. So, I had to get those back but yay I am so excited, yay I am so proud. But we are not done yet.”
