Serena Williams is all set for a comeback after almost a year out of professional tennis. The 23-time Grand Slam champion stepped out of the circuit due to a hamstring injury in last year’s Wimbledon championship. Now, she is gearing up to restart her career from where she left.

Williams has signed herself for this year’s London-based Grand Slam. With her former coach not by her side, a surprising name has been added to her coaching staff.

Serena Williams joins hands with Venus Williams’ coach

Patrick Mouratoglou, Williams’ coach of almost ten years, decided to travel alongside Simona Halep after this season’s summer doubles. He was by her side during the clay-court tournaments and recently shared a clip of them training for the grass-court season.

Therefore, with Mouratoglou out of the reach, Williams has opted for the seven-time Grand Slam champion’s trusted coach Eric Hechtman. Erick broke the news on his Instagram handle and wrote, LFG! So pumped up for this trip with the GOAT.

Further, the former World No.1 is just two match wins away from sharing a record with the two major players of this generation Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. If Williams manages to win her first two matches, she will touch the milestone of a hundred match wins at Wimbledon, having already achieved the same feat at the US Open.

Federer claimed his 100th victory at Wimbledon in 2019. Whereas, the 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal achieved the record in 2020 at the French Open. Apart from these two, veterans Martina Navratilova (120 at Wimbledon) and Chris Evert (102 at US Open) also have their name engraved on the record.

What does Williams’ schedule look like?

The 40-year-old will start her grass swing with a WTA 500 event based in Eastbourne. She will participate in doubles with 2022 Madrid Open champion and Tunisian No.1 Ons Jabeur.
