During her brilliant campaign in Melbourne, the Chinese tennis star was recently surprised by her idol and two-time singles Grand Slam champion Li Na. A video clip of an endearing and playful moment between the WTA superstars has also surfaced online.

The official Instagram page of the Australian Open recently brought to light a video clip of the two-time singles Grand Slam champion crashing her compatriot Qinwen Zheng’s interview in Melbourne. Li Na was also sighted spanking the 21-year-old player before she gave her a warm hug. In the caption of their social media post, the Grand Slam tournament stated, “SURPRISE! 🫢Li Na jumps into @zhengqinwen_tennis interview to congratulate her on her win 🥺”

The former world No. 13 player started her campaign with a stellar win against the unseeded American Ashlyn Krueger. After dropping the first set of her opener, the Chinese player made a brilliant comeback to turn the match in her favor, winning it with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. With another remarkable performance, Zheng later brushed aside the current British No. 1 Katie Boulter in a straight-sets game, 6-3, 6-3.

In the third round of the Australian Open, Zheng recently overcame her compatriot Wang Yafan, in a three-set game, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, at the Rod Laver Arena. The 12th-seeded Chinese will now square off against the unseeded French player Océane Dodin for a place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
