Beyonce gets dissed for perpetuating this stereotype
In 2016, the renowned singer released the music video for her track, Lemonade, featuring cameo appearances by other notable figures like Serena Williams and Zendaya. However, a few days later, it received a lot of backlash from her compatriot, Azealia Banks, who deemed the film as a ‘negative stereotype’ about black women.
According to a report from The Boombox, the 32-year-old took to her Twitter account in order to diss the music video for its bad portrayal of black being always being sad and downtrodden. In her blunt assessment of the video, she said, “You keep crying over a man and perpetuating that sad black female sufferance and it’s Not good for what we’re trying to accomplish here”.

The renowned rapper further accused the 41-year-old of stealing some of her ideas for the depiction of African traditions in the music video of her track, Lemonade. She lashed out at Beyoncé by saying, “She’s a thief. Sisters don’t steal, sisters share”. The American tennis legend, on the other hand, seemed unbothered by these critics as she continues to attend her concerts, maintaining her long-term friendship with Beyoncé.
