Sickness is an unfortunate aspect everyone needs to deal with. In a recent update, Serena Williams‘ businessman husband revealed his recent health challenges. Living in Florida, Ohanian contracted a disease often found in the wilderness. While he assured us he was seeking proper treatment, his health update shows something could be wrong without the body showing any symptoms.

Ohanian surprised his followers when he shared he had been struck with a disease. The Reddit co-founder has contracted Lyme disease. Mentioning that he has “no symptoms” with his “good cholesterol is too low” and “bad cholesterol is just OK,” Ohanian confirmed that he “gotta work on” his health. Lyme disease is a debilitating infection caused by borrelia bacteria carried by a North American black-legged tick.

The 776 founder further mentioned how one of his loved ones “had it a few years back, showed tons symptoms etc and just couldn’t figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too).” He also mentioned how “this was quite a surprise” as he spent very little time in the “wilderness/northeast” where the bacteria is usually found.

Maintaining his positive personality, Ohanian assured all that he would soon begin his treatment. “Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics — can’t keep me down, tick!” tweeted Ohanian. Lyme disease can be proven dangerous if not identified earlier. While the earlier symptoms show flu-like patterns, including rashes, they can cause paralysis, neurological problems, joint pain, hearing and memory issues, and heart inflammation. 

The Centers for Disease Control Board in the United States confirms about 476,000 Americans are identified with this disease every year. Despite that, Ohanian’s health update eases anxiety as he caught it early on and can begin treatment ASAP. Ohanian’s positive attitude toward treating his disease also shows his serious attitude when tackling health problems. One could also see it when he took a vow to cure another disease and earned a huge respect for his thinking.

Ohanian’s outlook on curing his Lyme disease brings back last year’s memory when this businessman tweeted about making a promise to cure Glioblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor that caused Ohanian’s mother’s passing in 2008. She could survive only three years after her diagnosis. Tweeting about it, Ohanian said last year, “GBM  This is the monster that took my mom. I’m going to see to it that we cure it in my lifetime.”

Along with that, Ohanian also thanked Johns Hopkins Hospital for treating his mother with great care. “The hospital here actually spent a lot of time treating my mom when she was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer. And I know that she got extra months, if not years of her life because of the work of doctors, nurses, health workers, in your hospital system,” tweeted Ohanian.

Alexis Ohanian’s recent health update might be concerning, but the fact that it was diagnosed earlier relieved many people. Following Ohanian’s careful treatment plans, it is hoped that he will soon be healthy and fit.
