‘Really Wanted to Represent a Black Girl’ – Serena Williams Delves Deep Into the Passion Project She Has in Store for Five-Year-Old Olympia

After retiring from tennis at the US Open, Serena Williams immediately shifted her focus from tennis to business. In recent times, she has been attending many talk shows to promote her daughter Olympia’s doll Qai Qai’s new book.

During her latest appearance on GMA (Good Morning America), she talked about Qai Qai’s newest children’s book called, ‘The Adventures of Qai Qai’. In that interview, Serena talked about how she came up with the story and how important this book was for the African American community.

Serena revealed that she came up with the idea during Covid while playing with Olympia and her doll Qai Qai. “We just wanted to put in people’s minds that we can’t forget that how important it is to use your imagination and play. Also, believe in yourself. So, there are really cool hidden messages in there about self-confidence that you can do it,” Serena said during the interview. 

Speaking about the illustrations in the book, she said, “I really wanted to represent a black girl because I thought it was really important. The reason Qai Qai came on because I was looking for a black doll and I wanted it to be something authentic that represented like who we are, like hair and everything in the texture.”

Later, Serena revealed a funny thing about her daughter Olympia, as she said, “Olympia thinks it’s her in the book and she thinks the mom is me and she thinks the dad is my husband… it’s not us… but I don’t want it to go to her head!“

Olympia’s doll Qai Qai is reaching new heights

It is worth noting that Olympia’s doll Qai Qai is a big star on social media, particularly on Instagram. The doll has around 334,000 followers on Instagram. Moreover, this doll also has her own YouTube channel with 5.75k subscribers.

Previously, both Serena and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, announced that the Qai Qai doll was getting a new voice actor named Taikirha Miller. Certainly, it was a big achievement to get a voice actor to play Qai Qai in a YouTube mini-series.

Now, this new children’s book is also getting really popular with children. Safe to say, the doll is gaining massive popularity thanks to Serena and her family. Meanwhile, Serena recently retired from Tennis, as she played her final match at the US Open in the third round. It seems like she has already adapted her life quite well after Tennis. However, fans are still hoping to see a miraculous comeback from the 23-time Grand Slam champion.
