Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, and Billie Jean King are one of the most, if not the most important entities, especially when it comes to the establishment and popularization of the WTA. They are the ones who challenged the archaic notions of women’s sports and brought crucial changes in tennis.

Even though the journey was long and full of difficulties, it gave them some sweet memories. Memories that they cherish to this date. Like the one from the 1975 Family Circle Cup.

Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova take a trip down the memory lane

Recently, King, the 12-time Grand Slam champion, posted a picture from her playing days and started a discussion with the two other stalwarts of the sport, Chris Evert and Martina Navaratilova. She shared what she recalled, I’m not sure what Martina and I were talking about here at the 1975 Family Circle Cup.”

“But I do know that Chris Evert won the Singles title at the event that year, and the year before,” King wrote on Twitter. As a response to which Evert who claimed her sixth title of the year and 45th title of her career in that event wrote, I look at these names. Such wonderful memories during an exciting time of building a tour for women. Thank you, Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova.”

Thereafter, Navratilova, who lost her first Family Circle Cup title against the defending champion, added, “Remember Ladies of the Evening, Chrissie:)?”

Speaking of Navratilova and Evert, they had one of the best rivalries in the history of the sport, if not the best. While their personal records are exemplary, it’s their rivalry that brought tremendous fame to the WTA tour. The veterans

locked horns 80 times and the Czech-American who lost 16 of the first 20 clashes ended with a lead of 43-37.
