Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka is truly an icon of the new generation of sporting personalities. Recently, she co-judged the Met Gala 2021 wearing a charming Louis Vuitton dress and showed the world her off-court side. Also, she explained the look and dress she carried at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts.

The dress that Osaka wore was inspired by her multi-cultural heritage, which would not come as a shock to followers of the tennis sensation. Earlier this year, the 23-year-old had launched an exclusive apparel line with Nike, paying tribute to her Haitian-Japanese-American origins.

Similarly, Osaka’s Louis Vuitton dress also paid tribute to her Haitian and Japanese origins. Interestingly, Osaka’ elder sister Mari Osaka and designer Nicolas Ghesquiere designed the outfit.

Naomi Osaka explained her Met Gala 2021 outfit

First of all, the host for the Vogue Magazine asked what made the four-time Grand Slam champion grace the Met Gala. To this, Naomi Osaka responded, “To be honest, I just really wanted to come here at least once and experience everything.” Unquestionably, her first Met Gala will remain a memory that Naomi cherishes for many years to come.

Afterwards, Osaka opened on how her sister Mari Osaka came on board with the project. Besides, Mari was also a professional tennis player but took early retirement this year.

“Actually, she is my elder sister,” Osaka continued. “And yeah, we both really love fashion and designing, so that was sort of the work balance that I kind of came about.”

The theme for this year’s Met Gala was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.’ Accordingly, the Japanese star dressed and then later explained her look. “For me, ‘In America’ means a mix of all cultures and this dress and look sort of represents my two backgrounds; Haitian and Japanese. So, I was glad I was able to incorporate it,” Osaka ended.

What’s next for Naomi in tennis?

Since the Australian Open 2021 triumph, Osaka’s tennis season has gone downhill. Plagued by various off-court issues, the star has serious doubts about returning to the court.

After her US Open 2021 exit, the Japanese professional revealed that she would be taking an indefinite break from the sport. As the WTA Finals will take place this year, it seems unlikely that she will return for those. Let’s hope Osaka has a fruitful time-off and she’s able to return to the court feeling like herself again.
