After defeating Maria Sakkari in the final round of the tournament, the Polish tennis player jumped with joy as she claimed victory in the tennis paradise. She stated, “I would say you just feel like your game is better than anyone out there. Obviously, it’s not for granted that you’re going to win because of that, but you feel like you have skills and you have everything to be able to, you know, present your best game.” Along with that, the four-time Grand Slam champion clearly highlighted that the world’s number one position practically defines that a player’s gain is better than anyone else out there on the tour.

On the other hand, she also emphasized the fact that the position is not granted, but if you present your best game, everything is possible. Further, she added, “I mean, because of that, I don’t expect, like, it’s going to happen all the time, but I just know that it’s somewhere there and I need to make the best work to put it out there.”

Subsequently, she also mentioned how she has the opportunity and is making the most of it while putting her best performance on the court. Not only that, just a few weeks ago, she also talked about the pressure that comes with being number one in the WTA rankings.

The pressure of being No. 1 in the WTA Rankings

Back in February, when the 22-year-old started her 19th week as number one, she opened up about how it’s always difficult to take it easy at tournaments due to the number one position. In a candid interview, she stated, “I feel like because I’m at the top of the WTA, I should have some standards. Sometimes it’s a little bit harder to kind of take it easy, because you feel like everybody is chasing you.”

Not only that, she also mentioned how there are a lot of things that change because of the position she is in, but at the same time, she always tries to remind herself that she is the same person no matter what her ranking is or what number she stands next to.
