Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova are one of the greatest names in the world of tennis. The players had a sheer dedication, and they improved their performance consistently to be the top players.

In tennis, prize money rewards the winning of a match. Some legendary names are on top of this list. Maria Sharapova was in the top three. However, Simona Halep recently displaced her to be the third highest-paid tennis player.

Maria Sharapova announced her retirement in the year 2020 and recently announced the wonderful news of her pregnancy. However, before that, she was vehemently active in the court. She had been a World No. 1 player and had won five grand slam titles.

Her rivalry with yet another legendary tennis player, Serena Williams, is world-renowned. Maria Sharapova was the crowd’s favorite for her strong gameplay and this led her to win a lot of matches.

She became the third-highest prize winner in women’s tennis. Williams’ sisters preceded her. Serena Williams leads the list, followed by Venus Williams.

Simona Halep takes over Maria Sharapova’s ranking

Simona Halep was the fourth highest-paid player, but now she has replaced Maria. This happened after her victory over the American player Coco Gauff at the Mutua Madrid Open in the round of 16. She has become the third highest-paid female tennis player with $38,842,886. The exact amount that she won after playing Gauff was $97,842. Sharapova now has $38,777,962.

Serena leads with the amount $94,518,971, followed by her sister $42,280,540. Halep will now face Ons Jabeur in the quarter-finals. She has joined hands with the former long-term coach of Serena Williams, Patrick Mouratoglou. The partnership is proving fruitful for the Romanian player till now.

The 30-year-old had a rough year in 2021. Her injuries hampered her because of which her rankings also dropped. She stands to be the World No. 21 player right now, but after seeing her performance, we can hope for her to be at the top of the list again.
