A retired American tennis star who has played numerous matches in her  career always had the fear of losing to only one player, and that’s the 23-time Grand Slam champion who recently evolved away from the sport.

Vania King talks about her challenging opponents 

The American tennis player, Vania King, who struggled to win a single major title throughout her career, appeared on the Tennis Channel Inside-In Podcast to talk about‌ various aspects of her game. She talked about her connection with the sport and revealed that she considers the 23-time Grand Slam champion her most challenging rival.

Vania spoke about how she felt not winning a title when she was a young player and now that she has retired. She said, “Especially, as I got older when I was younger, not so much because I was trying to figure out who I was and who I was as a player too.” And like any other athlete, she was also struggling to figure out what to do in her life.

Further, she added, “But every time I got on the court, I felt like I could beat any whoever’s in front of me, except Serena. I wasn’t I didn’t have to win, or I wasn’t necessarily guaranteed to win, but I knew that I could. And so there was a lot of power in that I felt, you know, a lot of confidence in that. My challenge was that I wasn’t consistent.” She struggled with consistency in her performances, but she was confident enough to defeat anyone—except for Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Serena Williams’ stellar tennis records

The 41-year-old tennis star had an outstanding tennis career. She had built one of the most successful careers on the WTA tour over the course of 27 years and was just one short of Margaret Court’s all-time Grand Slam record when she retired at this year’s US Open.

However, the former world number one didn’t limit herself to singles. She has competed in doubles with her sister, Venus Williams, and has taken home 14 Grand Slam doubles titles along with three Olympic gold medals.
