Richard Williams Made Serena Williams and Venus Williams Play With Balls That He Fed to the Dog Says Childhood Coach Rick Macci

Sisters Venus and Serena Williams are undoubtedly two of the greatest tennis players ever. They not only have achieved great feats in careers but also inspired many young girls to pick up the racket. Recently, the sisters returned to tour after a long gap. While Serena played in singles at Wimbledon Championships 2022, Venus tried out mixed doubles.
From a very young age, their father, Richard Williams, coached the two girls, and later Rick Macci Joined them. Macci recently took to his Twitter account to tell an interesting fact about their young days.

Macci recalls Williams sisters practicing with an old ball
Recalling the early playing days of the Williams sisters, Macci tweeted about the instances when Richard Williams made them practice with old tennis balls that he fed to the dogs.
Notably, the old tennis ball has a low bounce and is more challenging to play with.

Serena Williams’ disappointing return to the tour

Serena Williams was out of action after sustaining an injury in the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. She made a comeback in 2022 Wimbledon with a wildcard entry.
However, the 40-year-old had a disappointing run in the tournament. Playing against Harmony Tan of France in the first round, she ended up losing the match. Even though she gave a tough fight to the 24-year-old, it was not good enough for her to win. Her long absence has definitely affected her game, as she looked rusty and was not at her best.
