Serena Williams and Venus Williams, her older sister, have a strong relationship. They are among the WTA tour’s most popular sibling pairs. They have a strong bond and support one another both on and off the tennis court. 

The siblings’ triumphs in the doubles served as a reminder of what they were able to accomplish together. One of the most influential persons in the development of the sisters’ strong bond on and off the court was their mother, Oracene Price. Recently, a confidant of Price revealed how the Williams sisters’ mother helped balance the competition and sisterly bond between her daughters.

How Serena Williams and her sister’s bond got stronger

Richard and Oracene told Venus and Serena to keep their modesty and not judge their success or failure by the opinions of others. The sisters’ parents pushed them to embrace their competitiveness while suppressing an urge to compete against one another.

A close friend of Oracene once told Merlisa Lawrence Corbett, the author of The Guardian, “Their mother is their ultimate role model in terms of focus. She taught them to stay focused and she never allowed them to let anything get in the way of their relationship.”

She further went on to say, “One of the many times when they ended up playing each other in a final, as soon as the match was over, before I could even look up, Oracene was running back to the locker room to make sure that everybody was OK, but also to make sure that the sister bond survived.”
