While playing in extreme conditions, there have been many cases of ball kids feeling unwell and being attended to by the players. One such incident occurred recently at the Memorial Drive. Alicia Molik rushes to a ball kid’s rescue
Earlier in the day, Molik was announced as the new Tournament Director of Adelaide International, WTA 500 & ATP 250 event. It is a huge step for her as some big names will be playing in the tournament. The likes of world No.4 Elena Rybakina and Australia’s Alexei Popyrin have already confirmed their presence.

Molik was in Adelaide when she was being unveiled as the tournament’s new director. When she was busy with her press conference, a ball girl behind her collapsed suddenly. A loud noise erupted and it immediately alerted Molik. Subsequently, she rushed to the girl’s rescue and checked on her.
She even used her knowledge of first aid to her best and treated the young kid. Later, the girl was treated in the hospital after receiving preliminary treatment from Molik and the paramedics.

This is not the first incident this year involving a ball kid. Earlier this year, one of the ball boys in Novak Djokovic’s 2021 US Open final match suffered a saddening fate.

An accident turned tragic for a ball boy
In May this year, two boys tragically passed away in Jericho, New York, due to a car crash. One of the boys involved was a ball boy in the match between Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev at the 2021 US Open final. A drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the road collided with their car and the crash proved fatal for the ball boy.

Subsequently, the tennis world was left in grief after hearing about the incident. People prayed for the soul of the deceased ball boy and grieved with his family. The incident was a dark day in what has been otherwise a positive year for the tennis community.
