However, looking back at her amazing fashion displays on the court, this Russian WTA star dropped a surprising reaction.  Sharapova’s dress and sneakers from her Wimbledon 2005 tour were the talk of the town for many days.

While Sharapova accepted her defeat against the iconic Venus Williams at that tournament, she remained a much-talked player of the event just for her unique style preferences on the court. The official Instagram page of Wimbledon remembered this former WTA legend on her birthday by sharing pictures of her iconic sneakers from the tournament semifinals in 2005.

The reigning Wimbledon Champion at that moment donned a pair of custom-made white sneakers by Nike, which was highlighted with a 24-carat encrust and Sharapova’s first name on the back. Sharing the pictures, this page wrote- “A touch of gold. In 2005, defending champion @mariasharapova wore custom-made gold-trimmed footwear encrusted with 24-carat gold droplets on Centre Court.”

Sharing the same post on her official Instagram handle as a story, the world’s former number-one WTA star expressed two emotions. First, Sharapova wrote “the gold shoes” and added two big eyes emojis to showcase her surprise. Second, she also added- “24 carat gold” in the next picture that she shared with a similar amusement. The former world’s number-one tennis star’s reaction was priceless. She was surprised about her previous fashion choices.

Nevertheless, Sharapova’s iconic Nike gold sneakers stole the show at the Wimbledon 2005. Despite losing the tournament semi-finals to Venus Williams, Sharapova was able to create an impact with her amazing fashion sense. This Russian tennis beauty once spoke about her take on fashion and her styling choices.

In an interview with Vogue in 2015, Sharapova opened up about her fashion choices, style, and trends that she was looking up to back then. However, her answers helped fans understand this former WTA star’s incredible styling sense. Sharapova said- “I find myself mixing it up more and more, I love to experiment with my activewear choices, but I’m also heavily influenced by the culture of each tournament’s host city. I’m being a bit bold with pattern!”
