Rick Macci, the American tennis coach and former player, has shaped many vital players of tennis and Serena Williams is one of them. He gave tennis five world no.1s and has coached in five different decades. Further, he is the youngest person ever to be inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame.

Recently, Rick Macci sat down for a podcast and spoke to Patrick Bet David about variety of things. From taking a small trip down the memory lane to sharing his opinion about the players of the coming generation, he did it all. The two-hour-long interview was filled with stories, and one of them was about Donald Trump.

Rick Macci shares a story about Donald Trump
Rick is a man who dedicated most of his life to tennis. Though he sure has had encounters with people outside the tennis world. One such person is the ex-president of America. However, this is before Trump became the President.
Rick shared his interaction with latter and said, “This was late 90s and I had a girl. Her father approached me about coaching her and represented her. I knew Trump had a management company. So we set up. I called the pro, and he goes hey listen, Doland comes out every Saturday he will come to tennis and say hi to everybody. So be out here practising Saturday. And we were there practising on a Saturday.”

Following that, Rick added, “Now you gotta remember the Trumpster he is walking through there every day. And he is seeing this girl out there. He comes down to me; he introduces himself and says, who is that and I tell him the story and he goes anything I can do. Let me know.”
Further, Macci appreciated Doland for offering them a ride back home after their deal. He said, “Doland said I want you to come back on the plane with us. He sat down with me for two hours talking to me about tennis, basketball, football. I mean such a down o earth guy, communicator, a very versatile guy.”
Tennis stars whom Macci trained
Let’s begin with the very famous Williams sisters. Venus and Serena both trained under Macci in their junior years. He had a great impact on them while growing up. So much so that the makers of the movie King Richard featured his part in the movie. Further, Serena and Venus both have claimed the ranking of world no.1 and have 23 and 7 Grand Slams, respectively.

In addition, Macci also guided the five times Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova. Sharapova moved to the US for the sole purpose of finding a good coach when she met Macci.

Speaking of Jennifer Maria Capriati, Rick trained her just before joining hands with Richard Williams. Capriati has won three Grand Slams and was the world no.1 in 2001. Currently, she is a member of the International Hall of Fame.

Though he hasn’t just been a mentor to WTA players. He gave ATP one of its finest players Andy Roddick, the American tennis ace who clinched the ranking of world no.1 in the year 2003.
