The moment has finally arrived. Serena Williams’ much-anticipated comeback is just a few days away. Yesterday, the 23-time Grand Slam champion announced she will be participating in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships after receiving a wildcard entry into the Wimbledon singles draw.

The entire tennis fraternity was thrilled at the American legend’s much-awaited comeback. It is the same tournament where she last played. In the 2021 edition of the Wimbledon Championships, Serena retired midway through her first-round match owing to a hamstring injury.

As the 40-year-old announced her return after a year away, many fellow players on the tour expressed their happiness. Amongst them was World Number 1, Iga Swiatek.

The younger Williams sister took to Instagram to announce the news of her comeback. She said, “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go.” Subsequently, Swiatek reacted to this post, saying, “What a news…see you there!”

Initially, Serena’s name was missing from the official singles entry list for the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. This may have been because her ranking dropped below 1000.

Earlier this week, Gatorade released their latest commercial featuring the younger Williams sister. In the commercial, Serena gave an inspiring message to her fans- “We all need inspiration. But belief can only be found within. What’s inside me is inside you, too.”

Before the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, Serena will play doubles (with Ons Jabeur) in Eastbourne. It’ll be interesting to see how she performs on her comeback.
