Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki Headline Manchester United’s Crew’s Special Women’s Day Feature

With their remarkable Grand Slam accolades, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have established themselves as world-class athletes. The WTA superstars’ stellar performances on the court have inspired many players on the tennis circuit. But it now looks like Williams and Wozniacki’s profound influence has transcended the boundaries of the racket game.
Some of the biggest soccer stars at Manchester United F.C. came forward to name the powerful female role models that have inspired them. Even the tennis icons Williams and Wozniacki were among the other notable figures from around the globe on this elite list.
On International Women’s Day, the official Instagram page of the ‘Red Devils’ shared a video clip showcasing their players, mentioning their female role models. The social media post stated, “Wozniacki. Obama. Scott. Williams. Earps. Just a few of the powerful female role models that inspire our Reds and countless others.”

The Danish soccer star Christian Eriksen named his compatriot Caroline Wozniacki, while his colleague and MUFC full-back Diogo Dalot mentioned the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. The Canadian defender for the English Women’s Super League club, Jayde Riviere, named Serena Williams as her female role model.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian star Geyse da Silva Ferreira hailed her colleague, MUFC goalkeeper Mary Earps, for inspiring many young female athletes. She said, “Here at the club, like Mary, she is an example for the many girls who want to be players, want to be goalkeepers, and Mary is an example for them. They want to be like Mary, so for me, they are examples.”
Aside from Riviere, another soccer star looks up to Williams, as she previously also labeled her as one of the greatest female athletes in the sporting realm.
USWNT player was singing the praises of Serena Williams
Apart from tennis, the ‘Queen of the Court’ also likes to watch soccer, as she was there at her country’s friendly 3-0 win against China in 2023. After the match, Serena Williams also met USWNT players while she asked Trinity Rodman for her jersey. Speaking about the ‘incredible’ moment in a post-match conversation, Rodman couldn’t hold herself back from hailing Williams as one of the ‘GOATs.’

She said, “She was very sweet, very humble, which was refreshing and amazing. And obviously, we all look up to her, one of the greatest female athletes in the world. To meet her in person and see how she was, was incredible.”
