Coco Gauff, a young, rising tennis star, credits Serena Williams and her sister Venus for inspiring her father to buy her a racket. So it seemed fitting that she is making a deep mark at the US Open in the same year, that Serena was ‘evolving’ away from the sport.

The young player, Coco Gauff feels deterred by Serena Williams
Gauff first gained huge attention at the 2019 US Open at the age of 15. She dazzled the world by reaching the third round, and suddenly emerged as the next great hope for American women’s tennis. Gauff is also appreciated by her fans for winning her debut WTA tour match at the 2019 Miami Open.

The social impact of these revolutionary sisters was enormous. Venus and Serena Williams changed the face of a predominantly white sport. They inspired generations of aspiring talent and forced the tennis establishment to take steps toward a more equal and fair sport.
At an exclusive podcast, Coco Gauff was quoted as, ” My parents raised me to have a lot of respect for the players. You arent playing against the player but the ball. I don’t want to treat anyone differently, then I would play with Serena Williams. “

Gauff rose to fame after defeating Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon 2019. The former world no. 1 further added,” There’s an intimidating factor when you play them. Serena and venus are intimidating. You just have to pretend, you’re playing someone you hate “

Gauff makes history and her country proud
Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are the first American women to occupy two of the top four positions in the WTA rankings. Venus and Serena Williams held a similar position 12 years ago.

She advanced to the third round of the Guadalajara Open. Thus she qualified for the upcoming WTA Finals in singles and doubles. Since Maria Sharapova in 2004, she is the youngest player to reach the singles finals.
