However, there is a new queen on the throne of the women’s circuit. It is none other than the WTA world number one, Iga Swiatek, who is unstoppable right now. An incredible 37-match winning streak combined with her triumphs in both Roland Garros and the US Open in 2022 saw Swiatek grow into the dominant force that she is now. Despite a slow start to the 2023 season, the clay court swing of the circuit seems to have brought the best of her. Now, the Polish tennis sensation is on track to shatter a big record set by the American tennis legend Serena Williams.

The 21-year-old tennis superstar is currently participating in the Madrid Open. After defeating Julia Grabher, she is set to move on to the second round of the tournament and will face Bernarda Pera to break a huge record.

Iga Swiatek hunting down Serena Williams’ clay court record 

The three-time Grand Slam champion has moved past the first round of the Madrid Open. With that victory, she moved one step closer to another incredible record. After the 41-year-old American tennis legend, she now has the second-most WTA-1000 victories. Between the 2012 Madrid Open and the 2015 Madrid Open, the Queen of the Court won 33 straight WTA-1000 clay court main draw matches.

The world number one tennis player might be on her way to breaking the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s eight-year record. According to OptaAce, the Polish tennis player, who achieved her 12th Madrid Open victory, became the only tennis player after Williams since 2009 to create such a winning streak.

Swiatek’s clay court victory streak started in 2021 in Rome, and she is still unstoppable. After having a great tennis season till now, it won’t be a shock if the world number one gets close to Serena’s record after the Roland Garros.

The time when Swiatek broke Williams’ winning streak record 

Swiatek, last year, shattered the American tennis players’ consecutive wins record. When she lifted her second French Open title, it was her 34th consecutive victory. Previously, Williams was the only one to have recorded a 34-match win streak.
