Recently, she played the last match of her professional career as her US Open run came to an end with a defeat against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. Yesterday, she celebrated her retirement with her family and friends.

The former World Number 1, who was away from the action for close to a year, made a comeback during the grass-court season. Although she lost in the first round of Wimbledon, she put in a great fight against France’s Harmony Tan.

Christina McHale, who once teamed up with Serena at the Billie Jean King Cup, followed the American legend in announcing her retirement. She played the qualifying rounds for the US Open this year. However, she couldn’t proceed beyond the first qualifying round.
