Serena Williams‘ love and passion for sports are not confined to the spheres of tennis. After her retirement, they have transcended into a totally disparate game, soccer. The former tennis ace previously became a co-owner of the NWSL team, Angel City FC, alongside her husband and daughter. Apart from this, the American tennis legend’s admiration for soccer was also evident when she previously collaborated with the renowned actor and producer, Will Smith, for a unique documentary based on the sport. And now an enthralling teaser of the thought-provoking soccer film has recently piqued the interest of the audience on online platforms.
Taking note of the same, Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has dropped a major hint at something bigger to come from the tennis legend.

Serena Williams gets a huge shout-out from her husband after her film’s teaser
The 41-year-old tennis legend was previously announced as the executive producer of the unique sports documentary that has been titled “COPA 71”. In collaboration with Smith’s Westbrook Studios, the former tennis ace will showcase the unheard story of the 1971 Women’s World Cup that was dismissed by the soccer authorities, including FIFA. The historic event took place in Mexico and was under the auspices of the Federation of Independent European Female Football.
However, with the subsequent revamped format of FIFA, the women’s soccer tournament was left out of the history books until now. The movie, ‘COPA 71′ based on the same story, is all set to hit the cinemas next month. Prior to its release, a teaser of the film recently aroused the excitement of many avoid sports fans, including Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian.

Via this Tweet, the Reddit co-founder made a bold assertion about his wife’s ‘soccer’ endeavors while suggesting something bigger might also come from her. Apart from Ohanian, the WTA legend herself expressed her views on the upcoming soccer documentary.

Williams is proud to be a part of the documentary film crew
In a previous interview, the former world No. 1 said it was an honor to serve as an executive producer for the thought-provoking film that shines the spotlight on women’s sport. Serena asserted that the magical and unheard story will bring to light some of the most iconic moments in the history of soccer. Even her sister, Venus, is also part of the production crew and she further aims to portray the remarkable achievements and accolades amassed by the female soccer athletes during the 1970s era.
