Serena Williams’ ‘Big Difference’ in American Prodigy Alycia Parks’ Life Recalled by the Latter’s Family as She Makes Inroads at Australian Open

Serena Williams became a professional player at a very young age and has inspired millions of women around the world. She has also inspired many players to compete on tour, one of them being the sensational youngster Alycia Parks. The 23-year-old planned to take up tennis after being motivated by her performance on and off the court. 

Williams, knowing about Parks’ up-and-coming Australian Open stint, decided to to with her and her family. During the call, all four of the Parks family were left star-struck while talking to her.

Alycia Parks is currently in her second-round bout against Leylah Fernandez in Melbourne. The former number 27 is looking to go deep in the tournament and improve her position on the table. Before the tournament, Serena Williams called Parks to wish her well for her upcoming stint. Alycia and her family recalled the words of the Queen of the Court.

Alycia said, “I remember getting a call from Serena, just talking to her on the phone. I don’t remember exactly what she said, but they were very positive words.”

Her sister also recalled the call and said, “We were in the car with my dad, and he put it on speakerphone. Me and my sister were just sitting in the back, completely speechless.” Their mother chimed in and said, “They both were just beaming.”

Her father saw the profound impact Williams made on the two. “Honestly, Serena made a big difference in their lives by calling. They knew they can beat anyone or they can accomplish anything. And she told her to play hard and stay with her goals. So that meant a lot to us.”

While Parks takes inspiration from Williams now, she hadn’t heard of the player when she began her tennis journey.

Parks makes surprising admission

Parks, who is an up-and-coming star, revealed to the world that Serena and Venus Williams are some of her biggest inspirations in tennis. However, she did not know about the two players when she started playing tennis at a very young age. “I think it’s so weird how they compare us, because when I started tennis, I didn’t really know who Venus and Serena were.”

Her words will shock many tennis fans as most black tennis players who rise always say they are inspired by the duo of the Williams sisters to play tennis. However, Parks found her inspiration in them later. As she aims to beat Fernandez, she will think of the two in the hopes of moving on.
