Serena Williams ‘Can’t Wait’ For Naomi Osaka’s Tennis Comeback

Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams have both been away from the sport for a while now. While Serena has been unavailable since Wimbledon 2021, Osaka opted to withdraw from the remainder of the tournament since US Open. However, recently, Serena Williams expressed her happiness after she heard about Osaka’s return.

The Japanese star recently hinted at making her come back to the tennis court. She shared some snaps from her first practice session since Flushing Meadows. Osaka’s fans are hoping to see the two-time Australian Open champion at the ‘Happy Slam’ in 2022.

Serena Williams is excited for Naomi Osaka’s comeback

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, is currently busy with her father’s biopic, King Richard’s launch. Amidst that, Williams responded to Naomi Osaka’s return to the WTA Tour. Despite being rivals on the tennis courts, Serena is pretty excited about her comeback.

In an interview, Williams said, “Oh my goodness. It’s gonna be amazing. I can’t wait.” From the comments, it’s evident that Williams shares good friendship with four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

Just a week ago, Naomi Osaka shared pictures from her training session. “Kinda rusty but feels good to be back. I really want to say thank you, everyone, for all the kind messages, I really appreciate it,” she wrote on her Instagram. With the 2021 season coming to an end, the Japanese will be surely targeting the Australian Open in 2022.

Serena will also compete at the Australian Open

Along with Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams has also announced major positive news on her return to the tennis court. Williams has been away from the professional sport since she suffered from a hamstring injury at the opening round of Wimbledon 2021. The seven-time Wimbledon champion was forced to retire from her match against Sasnovich.

Just recently, Williams confessed that she’s recovering well. Furthermore, she confidently announced good news about her participation at the Australian Open 2022.

Serena and Osaka met in the 2021 Australian Open semi-finals, with Osaka clinching the victory on her way to the title. That match was seen by many as a ‘passing of the torch’ moment from the legend to the next-superstar. If Osaka can enjoy even half the success that Serena has, she will have plenty to be proud of from her career.
