After winning his 24th major title at the US Open in 2023, Novak Djokovic was primed to achieve a silver jubilee of Grand Slam wins. However, the 2024 season didn’t go according to his plans, with the Serb returning empty-handed as far as Grand Slams were concerned. At the Paris Olympics, he showed that he still had the best in him left after winning the elusive gold medal. Nonetheless, Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Rick Macci pointed out the only major block coming in the way of Djokovic winning another major title.

At 37, Djokovic is nearing the end of his career with each passing day. Moreover, his 2024 season was derailed by injuries and he had to miss some important tournaments. As a result, his physical struggles combined with inconsistent form affected him greatly last year. However, Macci feels that Djokovic can add another Grand Slam title if he avoids these issues.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Macci wrote, “This year will be all about one thing and one thing only for the Serbian Sniper. Staying injury free and many will WAGER the JOKER gets another MAJOR. @DjokerNole.”

For a major part of the last season, Djokovic suffered from a knee injury. After the French Open, he even underwent surgery to repair the damage done. However, the injury cropped back again and he even had to miss the ATP Finals. Djokovic underwent surgery after doctors told him that the recovery would be fast. “They were for once unanimous in their opinion that it has to be operated and that the recovery time will be much quicker than if I were actually not operated or if I tried to sew it up altogether,” Djokovic said. However, the injury refused to heal and Djokovic had to end his season early.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has been undergoing some changes in his game as he nears retirement. During an interview, he explained his game plan for the 2025 season.

Djokovic said, “I’m not looking to transform my game completely … I’m not going to be Giovanni (rising 21-year-old French star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard) serving two first serves and coming in to the net. But I definitely am looking to improve, even if it’s the slightest percentage, every single shot that I have in my game, and maybe something that people don’t necessarily see is this court positioning, the transition play, the tactics.”
