Despite her retirement, Serena Williams‘ popularity keeps her perennially in the headlines. The American legend has mesmerized fans all across the globe not just through the sporting industry but also in the entertainment world. Recently, the 23-time Grand Slam champion made a glamorous appearance at the Paris Fashion Week, and in the process, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Virgil Abloh.
Abloh, a renowned fashion designer, was close friends with Williams. However, he suffered a tragic death in 2021 due to cardiac angiosarcoma, leaving the fashion industry shocked. Here’s how Williams paid tribute to him.

Serena Williams attends the Off-White show
The former World Number 1 is enjoying her post-retirement life. While spending quality time with her family, Williams is also attending many events worldwide, like the Paris Fashion Week. Meeting up with The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey and singer Willow Smith, the retired tennis player was in star-studded company. Notably, Williams was present at the Off-White show, a fashion brand founded by the late Virgil Abloh in 2012.

During the show, Williams was seen capturing a glimpse of it on her camera, giving a perfect tribute to her late friend. Not only were they friends in their personal lives but also collaborated in the fashion world. In 2020, Williams was spotted wearing a custom-made white dress on a Vogue cover that was designed by Nike and Off-White. This is not the first time Williams has paid tribute to her dear friend. A few years ago, she made a heartening revelation about him.

Williams praised Virgil Abloh for the doors he opened for many
In one of her Instagram posts, Williams remembered her late friend and paid a heartfelt tribute. She remembered his glorious fashion career and how he had impacted the world with it.
Serena revealed, “It’s so inspiring to see what he was able to do and the doors he was able to open. You know having diversity in his group and making sure people of color are part of the biggest decisions. It’s so important to have that.”

Further, she added, “Virgil was so much more than a collaborator. He was a friend, an innovator. I really wish I wore the magnificent skirt he made for me in 2018. You saw it before me, Virgil. We will keep your legacy alive.”
With her recent appearance at the Off-White show, Williams showed how much her friendship with Abloh meant to her. Indeed, she is a legend in every aspect of life!
