Molding raw talent into global superstars, Serena Williams‘ former coach, Rick Macci, has been the secret ace behind tennis champions. Whether it be the Williams sisters, Maria Sharapova, or Andy Roddick, he has helped them from a very young age to accomplish what they have today. As a coach who has shaped many players’ lives, he received the honor of being inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame.
Nearly two months after receiving the prestigious honor, one of his most popular and well-known trainees came forward to share good wishes over the same. It’s none other than the 42-year-old American tennis legend. Let’s take a look at what Serena Williams has to say about his childhood coach receiving such an outstanding honor.

Serena Williams congratulates Rick Macci
Recently, the 69-year-old American tennis player took to his YouTube channel to share a video regarding how his tennis journey started. Along with that, he also shared the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s message that he received after receiving one of the highest honors.
In the video, Serena Williams said, “Congratulations Rick Macci for the USPTA Hall of Fame so proud of you and many many congratulations.” Although the prestigious award means a lot to Rick Macci, being wished by one of his best students is no less than a precious gift.
As someone who has given a lot to American tennis with the help of his academy and his athletic knowledge, earlier this year, in October, Macci, along with Harry Hopman, got inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association. Subsequently, the former world number one was proud of his childhood coach’s achievement, which came to him at the right time.
Macci has dedicated around 40 years of his life to inspiring millions of players and coaches at different levels while mapping out America in the tennis circuit. Nevertheless, earlier this year, Rick Macci shared a reason why he should be in the Hall of Fame while bringing up Serena Williams’ father, King Richard.

When Williams’ childhood coach reasoned his honor
A few months ago, the 69-year-old American tennis coach appeared on a podcast show, Parenting Aces. He shared the humorous reason behind why he was capable of receiving this prestigious honor. While talking about Richard Williams, he highlighted how he took a big chance to put a considerable amount of effort towards the sister along with their father.
But at the same time, he also emphasized how it was not easy to deal with a caring father. He said, “I tell people, I should be in the Hall of Fame, just for putting up with that guy.” In addition, he stated that he went on a mission as the entire tennis community was against them when the iconic sisters stepped on the tennis court.
