Coco Gauff has started the new tennis season on a high note. The American tennis prodigy has already reached the championship match of the ongoing ASB Classic, as she swept aside some of the top guns on the tour. In the process, the reigning Grand Slam champion has now pulled off an incredible feat during her campaign in Auckland.

As witnessed by her recent stellar performances, Gauff appears to be maintaining her strong on-court momentum from the previous season. With her recent victory at the ASB Classic, the 19-year-old has now joined Serena Williams on an elite list.

Coco Gauff pulls off yet another feat at the start of this new tennis season

The current world No. 3 player breezed past the likes of Claire Liu and Brenda Fruhvirtova in the initial round fixtures of the Auckland Classic. Later, Coco Gauff also managed to overcome her French opponent Varvara Gracheva in straight sets as she secured a place in the semifinals.

In her exciting encounter against the fourth seed, Emma Navarro, the 19-year-old clinched another straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1. As a teenager, the American tennis player has now reached her eighth WTA event final, as she has also equaled the record of her compatriot, Serena Williams.

The news was recently brought to light on Twitter by the official page of Opta Ace, which hailed Gauff in their latest post. They stated, “Now her second in Auckland with victory over Emma Navarro, Cori Gauff has reached an eighth WTA event final. Since 2000, it is the equal-most among American teenagers, along with Serena Williams. Company.”

Aside from reaching an eighth WTA event final, the young tennis sensation matched another teenage record of the ‘Queen of the Court.’

Gauff and Williams share another American teenage record

The 19-year-old player’s campaign in the 2023 US Open is the one that she will never forget. On her home soil, Gauff lifted her first Grand Slam trophy after overcoming some of the top-ranked players on the women’s tour. In the latter stages of the tournament in New York, the top guns like Aryna Sabalenka and Karolína Muchová tasted defeat at the hands of the tennis prodigy.
