Serena Williams knows how to ace the fashion game just like she ruled the tennis court. With her sportswear line “Serena Williams Design Crew” in collaboration with Nike, her children’s collection for “Janie and Jack,” and her makeup brand “WYN BEAUTY,” the American icon has left her mark far beyond Grand Slam titles. So it’s no surprise that she’s once again part of the most anticipated night in fashion: the Met Gala! But before she steps onto the red carpet, the icon is giving us a glimpse into how she balances her everyday routine amidst all the Met Gala madness.
The 2025 Met Gala will unfold at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight. The tennis champion won’t be the only athlete walking the red carpet either. Among the event’s co-chairs are sports giants like LeBron James and Lewis Hamilton. Before the stars dazzle on the red carpet, several of them, including Serena, have already stirred buzz with their pre-Gala activities. At one of the pre-Met Gala parties, Serena made a striking appearance in an off-the-shoulder white gown adorned with ruching and feather detailing. The elegant outfit was designed by Feben, a celebrated Ethiopian designer. She shared the look in her Instagram posts, giving fans a preview of her style.
However, the American tennis icon also highlighted how she’s multitasking at the same time. In an Instagram story, she gave fans an inside look at her day leading up to the main event. It wasn’t all fittings and glam teams; there was some classic mom mode in the mix, too. The 43-year-old said, “Hey, so it’s pre-Met Gala and I am having a very relaxing time. I ended up at American Doll because baby Diri (Adira) hasn’t had her American doll, and of course, Olympia decided that she wanted one too, so that was fun. And now I’m starving, so I decided to have a Caesar salad because I am like, don’t get the burger, get the Caesar salad.”

She further continued, “Okay, so I got that, I am nibbling on the crouton a little bit because it was just, I just needed to do it. Also, I’m like, I am gonna go downstairs and get a coffee because I go to bed now at 8 o’clock because that’s just what I do. And besides, I like to go to bed really early. So I am gonna get a coffee to make sure I am up all night because, quite frankly, I am partying tonight.”

Apparently, her daughters are very fond of dolls. On Saturday, she also gave a shoutout to fellow Met Gala co-chair LeBron James while spotlighting a new collectible. Williams posted a video showing off the latest LeBron James Ken doll edition. Holding the box that featured the tagline Where legacy lives, she expressed genuine excitement. She said, “When I first read about this, I was like how dope is that. Look at this: LeBron James Barbie. Isn’t it crazy? Like the first Kindle. You know, my girls love Barbie. I love this and can’t wait for the girls to play with this.”
The 23-time Grand Slam champion might have her hands full with mama duties, but she’s no stranger to showing up in style at the Met. Let’s take a look at some of her iconic looks!

A Look Back at Serena Williams’ Met Gala Fashion Moments
Serena Williams first attended back in 2004, at just 23 years old, when she already had five Grand Slam titles to her name. She made several appearances after that. One of her most iconic ones was when she arrived alongside her husband Alexis Ohanian, newly married and glowing on the carpet.

In 2019, she made history not just by attending, but by co-chairing the Met Gala with Harry Styles and Lady Gaga. That year, she wore a custom Atelier Versace gown paired with Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. The theme? “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” And Serena understood the assignment.
Fast forward to 2021, and the six-time US Open champion took another bold step. For “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” she wore a silver lace bodysuit from Gucci, complete with a dramatic ombre feather cape that made her presence unforgettable.
Her last two appearances, in 2023 and 2024, were just as iconic. In 2023, she made headlines with her baby bump reveal in a black-and-white Gucci gown. The theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” was honored with a look that included pearl jewelry from Tiffany & Co. and a jeweled headpiece from Lelet NY. In 2024, the 43-year-old returned in a custom gold-coated silk gown designed by Balenciaga. Long black gloves, diamond jewelry, and a luxury watch rounded out her look for the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
