Serena Williams Lauds ‘Sweetest Friend’ Meghan Markle Despite Recent Rumours

In the sport of tennis, Serena Williams needs no introduction. The 40-year-old is among the greatest achievers in the game. However, the American star has not limited her success only to tennis. In fact, she has stakes in multiple business and is making her mark on the business world as well.

Serena has her own independent clothing collection brand by the name S by Serena. Recently, she was present at the New York Fashion Week runway show for her brand. Interacting with the media, she also spoke about her friendship with former actress and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

Williams praises Meghan Markle

Williams and Markle are long-time friends. The two have known each other since 2010 but got close after 2014. We also see Markle attending Serena’s matches frequently.

When asked about Markle, the 40-year-old was all praise for her friend.

“She’s the best person I know, she’s the nicest, sweetest friend Meghan is. She’s just the greatest person,” she said.

There were rumors of a rift between the two when Serena recently denied being friends with Markle and said she was merely an acquaintance. However, with this, Serena has put all the rumors to rest.

Serena Williams returned to the Wimbledon Championships in 2022 after suffering a serious hamstring injury the previous year. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion failed to impress in her campaign. She crashed out of the tournament after losing her first-round match against Harmony Tan of France. Although Serena gave a tough fight to her 24-year-old opponent, she failed to secure a victory.

Despite the disappointment of not going deep in her favorite Grand Slam tournament, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has got her spirit high. She has no plans of retiring anytime soon and even hinted at playing the US Open later this year. Notably, the former world number one is just one Grand Slam title away from equaling the record for the most Grand Slam titles, currently held by Margaret Court.
